Bread and Porridge is known for

its cozy booths, California comfort

food, and congenial ambiance.

 

We claim, and others agree that

Bread & Porridge has the finest

breakfast food in Southern California.

 

Our breakfast menu emphasizes

pancakes and omelets – we offer

six kinds of pancakes plus thick-cut

French toast.  Our omelets cater to a

wide range of tastes. We utilize

tried and true ingredients such as

cheddar cheese and tomatoes as

well as new favorites such as

goat cheese, Swiss chard, and

chicken sausage.

 

We are famous for our locally

roasted gourmet coffee, which

we serve by the cup or in a French

press. Our espresso beans make

one of the finest cappuccinos

you will ever taste.

 

For a light breakfast sink into one

of our leather lounge chairs and

pair one of our freshly baked raisin

scones with a cappuccino or latte

and you will be in seventh heaven.

 

We serve the breakfast menu

any time -- and while our

breakfasts are mostly on the

large side, a weekday lunch at

Bread & Porridge can be

a lighter affair.

 

Our lunch menu emphasizes

innovative entrée salads, as well

as traditional sandwiches using

bread from a local artisan baker.

Our lineup of sandwiches runs

from old favorites like the BLT

to more interesting concoctions

such as our oven-roasted turkey

breast sandwich with basil pesto

mayonnaise on a Focaccia bun.

 

Something more filling?

We specialize in BBQ beef brisket

that we slow smoke for 9 hours.

 

Our barbequed beef brisket sandwich

Is served on a fresh Kaiser roll and is

accompanied with our country-style

(rough-cut) coleslaw.  The same

BBQ is available as a dinner plate

with both baked beans and coleslaw.

Our restaurant’s policy is to only

serve wild-caught fish, so you’ll

never have to ask whether the fish

we are serving is from a “fish farm”,

because it never has been and

never will be at B&P.

 

We are keenly aware of the possible

dangers now lurking in our food

supply and our food buyers know

that wild fish is healthy and

wholesome, and that farmed fish

is potentially contaminated

with parasites and PCBs.

 

We are aware of the danger of

methyl mercury in wild fish

populations and that is why we

serve Alaskan Sockeye salmon

exclusively --a species the is

naturally low in mercury and

sustainably fished.

 

One item that has really taken off

since we introduced it in 2008

is our one half pound

USDA Prime

Beef Burger.

Until you taste our Prime Burger

you will never appreciate the

contribution that USDA Prime

beef can make to the often

taken-for-granted hamburger.

 

If steak is what you are looking

for then look no further –

we offer a specially marinated

10oz rib eye accompanied

with hand-mashed potatoes

that will satisfy any

“meat and potatoes” gal or guy.

 

In 2008 we introduced our acclaimed

old-fashioned meatloaf served with

country mushroom gravy and

mashed potatoes. We think that

this is the best meatloaf you will

ever taste.

 

Want to spice it up?

We also offer an excellent

Firehouse Chili made with

lots of green Anaheim chilies and

ground beef. On the milder side,

try our famous beef stew made

with red wine and savory winter

vegetables.

 

Dinnertime chicken dishes include

fettuccini with sautéed chicken

breast in a pesto cream sauce or

lemony chicken Piccata.

 

We are proud of the quality of our
